BJP, Union Govt Ignoring Panchayats  of J & K:  AJKPC

AJKPC Questions BJP’s Silence over PRI’s of J & K

JAMMU, 24/Aug/2014: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), a premier   organization of Panchayat members  have slammed BJP led Union government for their failure to address the grievances of the 33,000 Panchayat members of Jammu and Kashmir State.
Today, while addressing media persons here at Jammu, Anil Sharma president of the organization along with other senior colleagues including Vimla Devi, President Women Wing, Gautam Singh Jamwal, Provincial President Jammu, Alam Chaudhary, State Secretary, Raj Kumar , Provincial Vice President  Jammu of  AJKPC  questioned the silence adopted by the Bhartiya Janta Party over the issues related to Panchayati Raj Institutions of J & K.

Anil Sharma while sharing details with the media persons informed that the union government have failed to clear over Rs. 200 Crore MGNREGA payment to the state government for which the documents stands submitted with the union government, he said that  due to casual approach of the Union Panchayati Raj ministry, the  MGNREGA workers from Jammu region  have failed to receive their wages  amounting Rs. 160 crore besides Rs 40 Crore i.e. cost of the material used for MGNREGA projects . The poor workers who were employed under MGNREGA are suffering, their family members are the worst sufferers and today they are not even able to have daily meals forget the medical care or education of their children.

AJKPC  President  said that the silence adopted by the BJP leaders over the Panchayati Raj Institutions here in Jammu and Kashmir  expose the duplicity of this party, “ before Lok Sabha elections  all senior leaders including  Narinder Modi during his visits to Jammu in his  campaigning had raised the issue several time but it is surprising that after 26th of May/2014, they have turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the problems being faced by the rural people and Panchayat members”. He said.

The AJKPC alleged that Since formation of the NDA government, the Prime Minister Narinder Modi have visited the state twice but he did not even care to mention the issue of PRI’s of Jammu and Kashmir state who have stood for the cause of nationalism and democracy despite all odds. How could the NDA leaders forget the sacrifices made by our brave Panchayat members who preferred to sacrifice their lives in Jammu and Kashmir than to surrender before the anti-democracy forces.

Bimla Devi, Women wing chief of the organization asked the Bhartiya Janta Party to prove its credentials and demanded that now the union government must address the genuine grievances of the elected members of the J & K Panchayats including their security. She said, may be elsewhere in the country the elected panchayat members are confined only with regard to developmental issues but here in the state we (the panchayat members) are facing double edge sword, at one hand the anti-national elements force us to resign from the posts and on other side the discriminatory and casual approach of the government makes things more difficult. The union government must give their due to the PRI’s of Jammu and Kashmir who have played a significant role in strengthening the democracy at grass root level in each and every   village of the state.

Gautam Singh Jamwal, the provincial president demanded an economical package exclusively for the Panchayat Development on the Pattern of pattern of MP LAD and constituency development fund for the 4,000 Panchayats of Jammu and Kashmir state.
Alam Chaudhary and Raj Kumar the senior leaders of the organization expressed their concern over the recent indiscriminate firing by Pakistan at the International Border and LoC here in Jammu and Kashmir which has caused loss of life and property of the innocent civilians.
The senior AJKPC and Panchayat members who were present and spoke on the occasion include Sarpanch Mohan Singh, Sanjeev Singh Langeh, Panch Avinash Devi, Sardar Makhan Singh, Pritam Chand, Bansi Lal Bhagat, Mukhtyar Mohammad etc.
