AJKPC Asks BJP-PDP to Include Implementation of 73rd,
74th Amendment in CMP
Jammu, 09/FEB/2015:
Amidst reports of possible BJP-PDP alliance in Jammu and Kashmir for government
formation, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, AJKPC, the frontline organization
of elected Panches and Sarpanches have urged the leadership of both the
political parties to include the implementation of 73rd and 74th
amendment of Indian Constitution in their Common Minimum Program so that grass
root level democratic institutions like Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban
Local Bodies be strengthened in the state , without which there cannot be any
development.
Anil Sharma,
the president of the organization while sharing this demand of AJKPC with the
media informed that their organization is hopeful that the new dispensation (BJP-PDP
Coalition) as and when takes over the regime would do justice with the 33,000
Panchayat members and give them their due share. He said the former government
of NC-Congress could not fulfill its promise of empowering Panchayati Raj
Institutions, though they successfully conducted the 1st tier Panchayat
Elections but they neither gave them the autonomy as envisaged in the Panchayati
Raj Act of the state nor conducted the Block and District Level Election of
Block and District Committees. AJKPC Leader demanded the implementation of 73rd
and 74th amendments of the Indian Constitution in toto.
Bashir Malik, another senior leader of the
AJKPC and Provincial President, Kashmir unit also endorsed the demand and asked
the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party and Bhartiya Janta Party to not
forget their promise of decentralization of power to the people which is
possible only through the institutions of local self governance like Panchayats
and Municipalities. We assure that Panchayats would cooperate with the new
regime in executing their developmental and people welfare schemes
without any political motives.
